Hey guys!!!!!
It has been a while and a half since I posted something but here I am with another period post. Yes, another one!!!
Guess who had a zero waste period? Me!! Now I know what you are thinking, “What the hell is a zero waste period?” It is simply a period where you don’t use disposable products, so no pads, no tampons, and no disposable panty liners. You only use products that can be reused.
Backstory: I have been trying this for months. I wrote a post last year on my successful use of menstrual cups only to find difficulty in them again when I constantly leaked -_-. So I gave up that attempt and reverted to tampons. Then, I discovered REUSABLE PANTY LINERS! I did a DIY video on making them (see link below) and started using them throughout the month. So boom, I solved one wastage problem.
I adjusted my pattern for the panty liners after that video and now I make them with snap ons and I curved the wing area. This made it much easier to sew and it stays put! This is not for people who scorn their own bodily fluids (I do not understand how you can, cause I mean, it’s your fluid), this is for my people who love themselves, their bodies and the environment. If you are interested I have them on sale in 2 sizes, 7 inches and 10 inches. The 7 inches length cost 100ttd for 7 and the 10 inches 125ttd for 7.
So back to this month, after having lost a substantial amount of income, I had to find ways to decrease my monthly spending. I couldn’t afford to buy another menstrual cup online for higher cervix (I figured out my problem by the way), so I pulled out old faithful and gave her one last shot to save the day.
Here we are, day 4 of my period and I have not used anything that needed to throw away. I started using the cup before my period started, you know the days when it gives you a prelude but not the full show. This actually gave me enough practice of inserting the cup and getting my pelvic muscles trained for insertion. The bonus of a menstrual cup is that it is made of silicon, therefore, there is no chance of toxic shock if you wear them without a flow.
There were many times I thought I leaked but it turned out to be paranoia. I only had to change both of them twice a day allowing me to enjoy full day outings in the park with no access to a toilet. Who wouldn’t love being able to go out all day with their periods and not have to change a pad or tampon?!
I’m really starting to embrace this hippie lifestyle that I am forming. Not only does it save me money but my heart is warm knowing I contributed in some way to decreasing the country’s waste. I hope someone reading this makes the change with me! Comment or message me if you want some more advice on this zero waste lifestyle or want to purchase the panty liner.
Be good!!!
